Perhaps one of the most versatile players in the Arsenal
squad, Jack Wilshere has been an irreplaceable piece in the mighty cannon that
is The Arsenal. Although he may not always be a starter in the team, believe me
he is one of the greatest players that has ever and will ever play for us.
Joining the Gunners from the age of nine, Super Jack has
played for Arsenal ever season of his career; apart from his short loan spell
at BWFC. Jack has always played above his peers, and has managed to rise
through the ranks year to year. In 2008, Wilshere became Arsenal’s youngest
ever league debutant; surpassing former Gunner Cèsc Fabregas for the honour.
Ever since, the young Englishman hasn’t looked back.
I would personally say that the 2013/2014 has been a
breakout season for JW10. There is something about him this season that makes
him play better than he has his whole career combined. I believe the new
signings in the team have helped him out quite significantly. Jack is playing
like the spitting image of a true Arsenal player; determined, passionate and
protective. This has been hard to come by in recent years, but Jack has resurrected
the missing Arsenal mentality and that has only been a good thing.
Now of course with every superstar that exists, there are
some problems that come along with it. One issue that stays with him would be
his proneness to injury. Ever since Jack suffered his infamous ankle fracture;
he seems to be more susceptible to injury. I don’t want to harp on it too much,
but it is something that hinders him. The fact that he can only play a maximum
of 7 games and must stay out for a few games means that he needs to
rehabilitate for a while. Michael Owen had the same kind of issues, but at the
end of the day look at what kind of player he ended up being; considered best
in Europe at one point in his career.
I don’t want to sound too ambitious by comparing him to an
English legend; but in reality why can’t I? He is perhaps one of the most
talented young midfielders England has ever produced, at least since the young
days of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. The good thing is when he matures to
their current level in their respective careers; there will only be one
Wilshere running the show. That will give the Gunner a huge confident boost, meaning
he can produce at levels unimaginable at this time.
I don’t want to make it seem like Wilshere is a God or anything,
but what I want everyone to take away is that he’s good, he’s young and he’s here
to stay. One day we’ll speak about Wilshere as one of the Arsenal legends that
we had the chance to watch; but for now we need to give him the patience he
needs to properly develop. I don’t want to jinx anything, but all I’m going to
say is that Jack will go down as an Arsenal legend guaranteed.
