Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 victory over newly promoted side Hull City yesterday, with an early strike from Nicklas Bendtner and a brace from the wizard, Mesut Özil. The match was dominated early on by the Gunners, who did not even let their opponents touch the ball at certain points of the match. This newly found chemistry in the squad makes it more believable each and every day that the Gunners will be able to end their trophy drought of 8 years.
Two minutes into the match and none other than Bendtner, the player supporters have been moaning about since the beginning of the season, goes on to score a header from an Carl Jenkinson cross. This followed up with many chances from the club, with a constant attacking pressure meant Hull could never break out of their final third for the majority of the first half. Many more chances followed suit during the half, with Cazorla providing many crucial crosses to the box, all of which failed to be converted.
Second half just meant double the intensity from the league leaders. The wizard Özil was able to convert on a pass from Aaron Ramsey in the 47th minute; Hull’s back four allowing him to sneak in behind and convert an easy shot. Once again, the squad mirrored their first half tactics: pressure, possession, pace. Holding onto the ball for the majority of the half meant Hull couldn’t even get a chance to take a shot on goal. 73rd minute saw an end to Nicklas Bendtner’s night, and was replaced by the speedy Theo Walcott, who saw action up front as a striker. Jack Wilshere was also subbed on and provided the much needed grit for the rest of the game.
Arsenal took away a good 3 points as well as the 7th clean sheet in a row in which Mertesacker and Koscienly have started the match together. Szczesny looks to be playing on form as well, which will be crucial during the next four fixtures (Everton, Napoli, Man City, Chelsea). Hoping all goes well, the Gunners can play their new aggressive style easily against these clubs and the confidence boost from another clean sheet should come to be useful.
