The upcoming fixture against Chelsea this Monday may prove to be the most important of this year’s Premier League campaign. After drawing at home against Everton and losing away to Man City, the squad will need to pull together to avoid dropping points for the third game in a row. A loss at home would mean Arsenal would be fourth in the table, dropping from first place. The result of the game, in my opinion, can be enough to determine if the Gunners can prevail to win the Premier League for the first time in 10 years.
After a string of bad results, the Gunners are in need of a victory to be able to turn their form around. I believe that the psychological factor that Chelsea imposes on the Gunners can be quite extreme, even if the squad is superior in skill. Examples at Man Utd and City are perfect examples. The club just seems to be nervous when playing their top 4 rivals and this cannot happen during Monday’s game. The team will need to play smart and offensive football, as well as attack Chelsea’s weaknesses, their strikers. Hopefully Wenger will instruct his men about the lack of firepower that Chelsea possesses and use it to their advantage.
Wenger’s rivalry with Mourinho could potentially be defined with this match. As Sir Alex Ferguson is now out of the picture, most EPL fans look to Wenger and Mourinho as being the most intense managerial rivalry that exists in the league currently. A win for the Gunners would show Mourinho that he is not as good as he thinks he is and would give Wenger an insane amount of confidence.
All I’m basically saying is that I want to see the club play well on Monday and win the game to advance with the season. A win would put Arsenal back on top of the table ahead of Liverpool and Man City, as well as leaving Chelsea in fourth place. This would mean Chelsea dropping points as well, which is always a good thing. I’m calling a 2-1 victory with Theo Walcott scoring the 2nd goal in extra time. Hopefully we will all be able to see Arsenal triumph over our London rivals.
