My Top 5 Arsenal Targets

With the transfer window having been open for 3 days now, there has been much speculation as to who the Gunners may decide to pursue in order to bolster the options for the squad. Many think that the club are in need of a striker, some say defenders, some people are even saying the club need more midfielders. From my eyes, I believe that the club should mainly focus on attacking players, just to have a variety of options with the attacking man up front. There are 5 transfers in particular that I would love to see happen, even if they are unrealistic.

5. Mario Balotelli
There are reports surfacing from Italy that former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli is unhappy at the San Siro and would like to move away from the Milan Club. Getting Balotelli would be a huge boost to the attacking capabilities of the squad; the only problem is that Super Mario tends to leave clubs just as frequently as he signs for them, so it is very unlikely for the Italian to stay for an extended period of time at the club. Even still, I wouldn’t mind one bit seeing my one of my favourite strikers wearing the Cannon on his chest.

4. Diego Costa
Many people reading this may be confused as to why Costa is not the top of my transfer list, but allow me to explain. Costa is a 25 year old striker, who is currently cup tied to a team in the Champions League who has a realistic shot at winning. Domestically, his club is also tied for first place with FC Barcelona in La Liga BBVA with Diego Costa contributing a league leading 19 goals. He’s having the season of his career, and it is very hard to see him leaving this January. I can see the interest though, as this would be classified as his breakout season, and would most likely end up doing similar things if he were to join Arsenal. Atletico Madrid also does have a tendency to sell their best players to high paying clubs, so I’ll be hoping that we do end up signing him in the end.

3. Marco Reus
Here’s a name that hasn’t been linked with Arsenal in a while but still the centre of much speculation. Marco Reus is perhaps one of the biggest prospects that exist in the game as of late and with Poldi increasing in age; it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a replacement for him on the left side, especially someone who has proven chemistry with Mesut Özil. Increasing the German core wouldn’t be a bad idea, but there would be a huge cost in attaining Reus from Dortmund, who rate the player as one of their best. It would take heavy negotiations from Arsène Wenger to convince Klopp of the deal, however doing so would greatly increase the strength of the team.

2. Julian Draxler
Another German star comes in at number two, and as I have already mentioned in one of my previous articles, Julian Draxler would be an amazing addition to the squad. Having another attacking mid playing at his level is always a good thing, and by bringing him into the team during January would mean more time for the young player to settle in with the squad. This is a transfer I believe to be realistic and may actually occur in this window or the next one, as long as everything else goes according to plan.

1. Christian Benteke

Coming in at the top spot is Aston Villa and Belgium striker Christian Benteke. This is a guy who I think the squad actually needs; a fast and powerful striker who has a proven goal scoring record. He is also only 23 years old, meaning he is not quite at the peak of his career and still has much room for improvement. Aston Villa is a small club and if a big enough offer was generated, they would have no choice but to say yes. Benteke has also been rumoured to have expressed a desire to leave the club, and whether that’s true or not, if Arsenal offered a large enough sum, The Villa would make way with their prized striker. Joining Arsenal would also be good for Benteke’s career as he would finally have the chance to show his skills across Europe and play against more fierce competition, rather than Domestic competitions only. This is one striker who is not cup tied, and is available for what I would say is no more than £25m.

Now I should tell everyone that all of these transfer are all rumors, and they are just who I would want to see at the club. I believe that having any one of these 5 players would help our squad tremendously, and hopefully we end up signing one of them in the near future.
